It is impossible to visit Sicily without taking in the vibrant humming of the markets. We surround ourselves with the colours and aromas of these street markets. We wander through the many stalls sharing moments with true locals. They will mesmerize you with their cooking and preparation of traditional street foods.

We also travel through Scaccia, Selinunte, Porto Paolo, Mazara del Vallo, Mozia and Marsala. Here we sample some of the region’s well-known and finest wines.

In addition we visit fish markets and dine in slow food restaurants, agriturismos and cantinas that will take you back in time. This part of Sicily is known for its regional produce, seafood and wines.

The produce is showcased through our cooking classes and by the passionate characters we meet along the way.
Most noteworthy, we head out in a sailing boat for an alfresco lunch, before wandering through the cobbled streets. Here we enjoy wine tasting and a degustation of local products in a quaint Enoteca.

Cultural Destinations

This tour of Western Sicily, gives you an in-depth look at Sicily’s most historic cities and sights. This is starring one of the beautiful and popular cities of Sicily, Palermo. The Arabs, Normans, Greek and Spanish among many others, have left Palermo with a rich imprint of foreign culture. This is evident in its art, design, architecture and cuisine.
The monuments and sites such as La Cattedrale di Monreale, la Cappella Palantina and le Catacombe dei Cappuccini will astound you. We make our way through Palermo with tours to Mondello, Monreale and Piazza Marina. In addition we travel to Mount Pellegrino and to the Grotto of Saint Rosalia. This is a sacred place of religious devotion adorned by the Palermitani. This place is celebrated in great festivities and religious holidays.

Visit the stunning photographic hilltop town of Erice. Erice is a picturesque medieval town built upon much older Phoenician and Elymian sites. We also travel to Menfi, an historical country town built by the Spanish aristocrat Diego Talgavia Aragona. Here you stay at an exquisite estate set back in the mountains with the alluring colours of nature.

Uniquely, the aromas of mountain lavender, rosemary and thyme hang in the air. This couples with views to the sea which still to this day in this part of Sicily works to suspend this land in its own rhythm of life.

On the final days of the tour you will relax with the iconic scenes and views of the stunning coastline of the seaside town Cefalu. We end the tour in a prestigious landmark hotel resting in its breathtaking position on the coastline for more than 100 years. It was re-styled in the 1800s and now stands as one of the best examples of Art Nouveau décor of its kind.

A Taste of The Itinerary

A taste of the itinerary

Day 1

Your guide will welcome you to Sicily! As you arrive in the busy city of Palermo, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to our hotel. We introduce ourselves to Palermo with an aperitivo and wander on foot to one of Palermo’s restaurants for dinner. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 Palermo

After an early breakfast at the hotel we leave on foot to visit Palazzo Reale and the Cattedrale of Palermo. Next we are picked up for the eerie tour of the Catacombs of the Capuchins. Then onto Monreale, situated on a mountain slope behind Palermo. At Monreale, we visit one of the most magnificent Norman architectural representations in Sicily “Il Duomo di Monreale.” Here you will witness one of the most superb churches in the world. This churches’ mosaics that will astound you. You will have some free time to wander around the town centre. After which you can settle in for a traditional lunch of pizza and Sicilian-style salads. Enjoy this at one of the square’s most popular local restaurants.

The afternoon is spent giving you free time to wander. Later, we head onto Monte Pellegrino. This is the sanctuary of Palermo’s sacred patron saint, Santa Rosalia. It is believed that a prayer and the attaching of pictures or symbols of limbs to the walls of the grotto can bring miracles. It is said it can heal, cure and bring peace to the sick, wounded or those who have passed away.

Next we drive to the seaside town of Mondello. Mondello is just outside of Palermo. Here we dine on a seafood dinner, gelato delizioso. In addition we enjoy the much-loved social ritual of the evening ‘passeggiata’. You return to the hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 3

Your tour of Palermo continues after a relaxed breakfast. Afterwards, head out on foot to visit the vibrant and bustling Capo markets.

Capo is one of the centres of Palermo’s food scene. So it is bursting with the cries of the fish mongers, and the crowds of local shoppers. You will enjoy all the excitement that these markets have become famous for. Snack on olives, cheeses, breads, and salami. Enjoy the richness of the bountiful foods while wandering the streets. Then head to the famous Teatro Massimo. This was featured in the last of the God Father movies. Here you will have time to wander the streets again. You may like to do a spot of shopping in the main street. Or rather, visit the local artisan shops which line the narrow cobbled laneways. Here you can buy hand-crafted wares.

You pass through Piazza San Domenico and mercato Vucciria and Piazza Marina. Finally, we visit the Church of San Francesco. This church has a deceptive entrance which belies the striking interior. We lunch at a real local Rosticceria. Both Palermitani and foreigners alike share tables. Here we enjoy the real street food from Sicily. The afternoon and early evening is free for you to relax and wander the streets. Or if you’d rather, read quietly on the terrazzo of the hotel.

Finally, we conclude with evening’s events and dinner.

Day 4

Steer away from the sweeties for breakfast this morning. Today those with a sweet tooth will be beautifully satisfied!

First of all, we drive to the mountain town of Erice, known to the locals as “umunti.” Erice is usually shrouded in a cool mist which locals call “the veil of Venus.” In Erice we treat you to goods at Dominique’s favourite pasticceria. Sample traditional handmade “dolce.” These recipes have been handed down for generations. The dolce has been made legendary by both the nuns and some of Sicily’s famous chefs and artisans.

Secondly, wander up to the Castello where you will be taken back in time. Here the views of the heavens are spectacular.

Finally you are free to wander the cobblestone streets for a spot of shopping. In addition you could practice your photography. Or if you’d rather, just lose yourself in the 14th Century Baroque architecture.

You stay in Erice for lunch. Then drive along the gorgeous coastline to the province of Trapani and the Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro. Here nature decorates the landscape with carob, olive and cork oak.

Afterwards we stop for a well-deserved break in the tiny town of Scopello for a granita. Then we head back to Palermo in the late afternoon to refresh and relax, ready to hit Palermo again by foot for dinner.
